There are now over 200 distinct BIDs across the UK, with a high number of these already into second (or even third) 5-year terms.
Birmingham alone boasts 11 BIDs across the city, with 5 in the city centre and a further 6 in local centres across the suburbs. Already 5 of these BIDs are into their second 5-year terms.
Jointly, these BIDs generate nearly £3.5million every year in levy income alone and bring in far more than that for the areas they represent from commercial activity, sponsorships, public sector funding and, of course, increased customer spend.
These BIDs make Birmingham a global leader in the field of Business Improvement Districts, with only four other cities across the world having more BIDs under a single authority.
The impact of these BIDs can be seen when you visit them and from the sense of “place” they provide, from new public squares in Colmore and infrastructure improvements in Broad Street to better community and business cohesion in places like Acocks Green and Erdington.
More locally, the BID in Kings Heath, now in its 7th year, has shown that investment in street parties, floral trails, Christmas illuminations, business awards, branded merchandise and much, much more has all contributed to one of the most successful high streets in the country and a genuine “feelgood” factor, even in times of recession and austerity.
The Northfield BID has placed a number of key events at the heart of its delivery – from an urban beach every summer to Christmas light switch-ons and other community events that really draw crowds in that the businesses there can take advantage of.
Wherever you look across the city, whenever something positive is happening – whether it be Chinese New Year, Pride, Christmas, Diwali and Food Festivals or arts trails, safer streets, cleaner and better environments, these are generally being driven by BIDs.
ow is the time for businesses across Bournville, Cotteridge, Kings Norton and Stirchley to join these other areas and take advantage of the unique opportunities that come with being a BID area.
YOU MAY NOT GET ANOTHER CHANCE TO COME TOGETHER AND MAKE A POSITIVE CHANGE FOR THE FUTURE OF YOUR OWN BUSINESS AND YOUR TRADING ENVIRONMENT, SO PLEASE REMEMBER TO VOTE “YES” TO THE LIFFORD BID!
